Job Satisfaction

I乫ve had a lot of different jobs in my life, but none of them has been anywhere near as satisfying as my current profession. My current profession of course, is teaching useful English conversation skills to the people of Asahikawa.
My typical work schedule during the busiest seasons is to teach at various outside institutions from 9:00 am to about 12:30 p.m., then come back to my classroom and teach classes from 2:00 or 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. After that, I sit down at my notebook computer and write new textbooks and other teaching materials until about 12:00m or 1:00 am.
Although I乫ve never worked longer hours than I do now, I feel absolutely no job-related stress. On the contrary, I sometimes feel that sleeping is a waste of time. I want to work more, but it is physically impossible.
The other day, one of the students at my classroom, a very pretty girl who is in her third year at Chuwa Junior High School, came to her weekly lesson as usual. She had just returned from a 10 day homestay in Bloomington-Normal Illinois, Asahikawa's Sister City in the USA. This student has been studying at my classroom for about 3 years. She comes every week and is always serious about her lessons. About a year ago, when she told me that she was planning to go to America on a homestay program, I sat down at my PC and completely rewrote one of my original textbooks, AMERICAN HOMESTAY, Daily Conversation. My old text was OK, but it was not good enough.
We used this new textbook in conjunction with some of my other original textbooks in order to prepare her for her upcoming visit to the USA.
When she came back to Asahikawa after her homestay in the USA, she came to her next lesson as usual. She was all smiles and very excited. I asked her to tell me about her experiences during the homestay program. She talked about various things and then suddenly said, 乬Your homestay conversation textbook was very useful for me. I even took it with me to America and looked at it when I wanted to use a certain expression. Coming here to your classroom and studying English conversation has been a great benefit for me.乭
When I heard this, I felt very happy inside. I was very proud of her, and also pleased with myself. 乪A job well done乫, I thought to myself. I had enjoyed the challenge of writing another completely new and original textbook. I had enjoyed using it in my classes. And more than anything else, I had enjoyed hearing that one of my students had been able to use my efforts and creations to further her own objectives. I had made a very positive difference in her life. This was my greatest reward. More valuable than extra free time, and much more valuable than money. 乪Damn! I乫ve got a great job!乫 I thought to myself over and over again.
Not only is this beautiful young girl one of my best students, but she is also at the top of her class at her junior high school, and indeed she is the class president. Her plans for the future are to go to high school in the USA for one year, come back to Asahikawa, finish high school, and then go on to college and become a pediatrician. How wonderful!!! Follow your dream. I乫ll do everything I can to help you.
I have a strong feeling that this young girl will become an excellent children乫s doctor, and help hundreds if not thousands of children live healthier happier lives. My meager contribution to her development will be magnified and expanded to many other people because of her diligent efforts. Her English speaking ability will be only a small, but none the less, very important part of her upcoming contribution to society.
One person can only do so much, but if you can help even one other person, you can in turn help many other people also.
What ever you do, always do good. When you think about yourself, also think about the other people you know. If you can help them, you can help yourself. And you will also help all of mankind. It really is that simple.
You must give before you can receive. You can receive only after you have given. Love your neighbor more than you love yourself. Helping others is the supreme reason for living.
The body grows old and dies. But the spirit 怱丂lives on forever. A person who is truly rich, is rich in the spirit. The ultimate meaning of life is based on the following questions. Did you give more to this world than you took from it, OR did you take more from this world than you gave back to it.?乭 Are you selfish? OR are you generous? Are you greedy? OR are you giving? Are you concerned about the whole of mankind? OR are you only concerned about yourself? Do you think that this 3-dimensional world around you is all that there is, OR do you realize that there are many other worlds in many other dimensions beyond this earth.
In this 3-dimensional world, MONEY is a substitute for power and influence. But in the unlimited dimensions of the cosmos, influence and power are equal to the power of the 怱 .
Be of pure heart and be of pure motive. The riches will be endless.
